Unexpected ICE Arrest After Prison Sentence
Frank Butselaar, the Dutch tax advisor known as the 'fiscalist van de sterren' for his celebrity clients, was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) immediately after his release from Danbury Federal Prison. Butselaar had just completed a 30-month sentence for tax fraud related to DJ Afrojack's false U.S. tax filings.
Failed Departure Attempt
Despite having a pre-booked flight to return to the Netherlands, ICE agents intercepted Butselaar at the prison gates. His legal team confirmed they had notified ICE of his departure plans, but officers stated "he's not going home today." The arrest stems from Butselaar's lack of legal immigration status after being extradited from Italy to face U.S. charges.
Trump's Immigration Enforcement Policy
This arrest aligns with President Trump's directive for ICE to execute at least 3,000 daily arrests to meet deportation targets. Trump's administration has prioritized removing undocumented immigrants following his campaign promises for stricter enforcement.
Ongoing Legal Challenges
Butselaar now faces ICE detention while awaiting deportation proceedings. Simultaneously, the Dutch Public Prosecution Service is pursuing a separate tax fraud case against him in the Netherlands related to domestic financial crimes.
