The European Commission has launched an investigation into four major porn sites—Pornhub, Stripchat, XNXX, and XVideos—over concerns they may not be doing enough to prevent minors from accessing their platforms. The probe will assess compliance with the EU's Digital Services Act (DSA), which mandates measures against harmful content and misinformation.
Current age verification relies on pop-ups asking users to confirm they are 18 or older, but initial findings suggest this is ineffective. If violations are confirmed, platforms could face fines of up to 6% of their annual revenue.
The EU is also developing an age-verification app, expected to launch this summer, though its mandatory use remains unclear.
