NOC*NSF receives record sum but faces major concerns about the future

NOC*NSF received a record €54.6 million from the Dutch Lottery but faces future financial challenges due to increased gambling taxes, potentially reducing funding by €15 million annually from 2025.

The Dutch sports federation NOC*NSF has received a record amount of €54.6 million from the Dutch Lottery, €2 million more than last year. However, this amount is expected to decrease significantly in the future.

Next year, the tax on gambling will increase to 37.8%, up from 29.5% two years ago. "This new legislation means we expect €50 million less in revenue starting next year," said Arjan Blok, director of the Dutch Lottery, during the NOC*NSF General Assembly in Papendal.

As a result, NOC*NSF will see a substantially lower contribution from the Dutch Lottery starting in 2026. "In the worst-case scenario, NOC*NSF will receive €15 million less annually from 2025," Blok predicted.

NOC*NSF's general director, Marc van den Tweel, expressed concerns about the financial impact, warning that the record of 34 Olympic medals achieved in Paris may not be surpassed in Los Angeles in 2028 due to budget cuts.
