Two close aides of Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada were shot dead in broad daylight, as confirmed by Mexican President Sheinbaum during her daily press conference.
The government has launched an investigation into the assassination, with the motive still unclear. Sheinbaum mentioned that the attackers were on a motorcycle.
In a written statement on X, Mayor Brugada identified the victims as a secretary and an advisor from her team, killed in the Moderna district of Mexico City. "There will be no impunity; those responsible will be arrested and brought to justice," she wrote.
Brugada, who became mayor in October last year, faces a rare incident in the capital, where drug cartel violence is common but such daylight killings are unusual.
