Six Teenagers Convicted in Vienna Court for Horrific Crimes Against Teacher
A Vienna court has delivered justice in a shocking case that has gripped Austria, sentencing six teenagers to prison terms for the systematic rape, assault, and blackmail of a 28-year-old teacher. The defendants, all aged between 14 and 17, were found guilty of orchestrating months of terror against the victim, who taught at their school.
Months of Systematic Abuse
The nightmare began when the teacher developed a relationship with a former student, then aged 16. Through this connection, she met his friends who would become her tormentors. 'What started as a consensual relationship turned into months of psychological and physical torture,' said court spokesperson Maria Schmidt in a statement to NOS.
The group used recordings of sexual acts and drug use to blackmail the woman, forcing her to pay for their drugs, cigarettes, food, drinks, and taxi rides. They systematically stole money from her while maintaining constant psychological pressure.
Violent Crimes and Psychological Trauma
The court established that while the victim was defenseless and under the influence of drugs, multiple members of the group raped, sexually assaulted, and physically abused her. A psychiatric evaluation presented during the trial confirmed the teacher now suffers from chronic depression and post-traumatic stress disorder as a direct result of the abuse.
'The psychological damage to the victim is profound and likely permanent,' testified Dr. Klaus Bauer, the court-appointed psychiatrist. 'She faces a long road to recovery, if recovery is even possible.'
Additional Crimes During Victim's Absence
While the teacher was on vacation in January 2025, the teenagers escalated their criminal activities. They broke into her home, set it on fire, and stole valuable possessions. The police investigation began several months after the arson, eventually uncovering the full extent of the abuse.
Some defendants admitted partial guilt for theft and arson but claimed the sexual acts were consensual. The court rejected this defense, finding clear evidence of coercion and abuse of power.
Sentencing and Legal Implications
The two main perpetrators received the harshest sentences: a 15-year-old was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison, while a 17-year-old received three years. The remaining defendants received sentences ranging from several months to partially suspended prison terms. One suspect, the former student with whom the teacher had a relationship, was acquitted of theft charges.
Under Austrian law, the age of criminal responsibility begins at 14, meaning all defendants were legally accountable for their actions. The case has sparked discussions about youth crime prevention and the need for better protection for educators.
'This case shows that even young offenders can commit heinous crimes and must face appropriate consequences,' stated prosecutor Thomas Weber. 'The sentences reflect the severity of their actions and the lasting damage caused to the victim.'
The verdict comes amid growing concerns about youth violence in Austria, with recent cases highlighting the need for improved intervention and support systems for at-risk youth.
