Hundreds of people gathered in the Austrian city of Graz to honor the victims of a school shooting. Yesterday, a 21-year-old man killed ten people before taking his own life.
On the Hauptplatz in Graz, mourners lit candles, creating what Austrian broadcaster ÖRF described as a "sea of light." A memorial service was also held at the Graz Cathedral, attended by Chancellor Stocker and members of his cabinet. The event was heavily guarded by police.
The deputy bishop called the act "unbearable," urging the community to support one another. Another service was held near the school, also under police supervision.
The shooting occurred yesterday morning, lasting 17 minutes and leaving 11 dead, including the shooter. Eleven others were injured, some critically. Austria has declared three days of national mourning, with a minute of silence observed today at 10:00 AM.
