Wendt's family confirmed that he died peacefully in his sleep. He was nominated for an Emmy Award six times for his role in Cheers but never won. Wendt began his career with The Second City, a renowned improvisational comedy troupe in Chicago, where many famous comedians started. His nephew, Jason Sudeikis, also followed in his footsteps.
